Inti Quilla

Inti Quilla. Sun and Moon in Quechua. It is an ancestral old song I learned through oral tradition from master Roberto Roman Quispe*. He was born in Central Andes, Huancavelica. As a child he learned the same song while performing in Cuzco with his master. The song is still used today in the sacred solstice festival. Inti Raymi from Cuzco. It has a Harawi (Yaravi) style melody at first and at the end a traditional Peruvian Huayno, or an allegro rythm.

This song was filmed at Nestor Lupaca’s workshop, lutier. His studio is in Villa El Salvador, South of Lima Peru. He just finished making a Quena for me, not of the traditional jungle bamboo, but of an exotic hard wood. The. name is Bloodwood, Brosimum rubescens.

Amazonas,  is a CD dedicated to the preservation of ancient forests. Ancient forests are shelter to most of the world’s biodiversity. These forests stabilize our climate, protect our soil, air, and water, and nurture the Earth’s fisheries. Unless the expansion of industrial logging is stopped, all remaining ancient forest areas will be fragmented or lost within a few short decades.
